The mountains and coast of Norway

A 2100 km cycle-tour made in June 2009 with Andrew Butcher. The Norwegian coast is renowned for its spectacular fiords, mountains, islands and, in the north, the midnight sun. There are also some wonderful tracks across the mountains in the south but - be warned - many of these are blocked by snow until the late summer. The Lofoten Islands, north of the Arctic Circle, are really special.

Week 1  :  Bergen - Nesbyen  (Chris)

Bergsdalen		Flåm
Rallarvegen The first crossing of this mountainous area by any cyclist in 2009. About 10km of the track was under snow and some of the tunnels were partially blocked by ice.

Week 2  :  Koppang - Trondheim  (Chris)

Østerdalen	Jonsvatnet	Trondheim

Week 3  :  Helgeland and the Arctic Circle  (Chris and Andrew)

		Click here for more information about my bike. My 30yr old Carridice panniers broke on the first day and were replaced with Norwegian BikeTek rolltop panniers a week later. These started to disintegrate almost immediately and were replaced with Deuter rolltops for the last 2 weeks of the tour. My 'tent' was a minimalist Terra Nova Jupitor bivi, just visible behind Andrew's red Terra Nova Laser tent in the last photo.
